For anyone who has ever dreamed of managing his or her own professional soccer team, the Football Manager simulation series aims to please. The most recent game in the series, Football Manager 2014, features more than a thousand improvements and enhancements over even its most recent predecessor, making it feel like the most complete and realistic addition released so far.

Alongside a redefined interface, with carefully reorganized game options and menus, Football Manager 2014 boasts enhanced gameplay. This includes new and more detailed interactions between the player/manager and their team, opponents, staff, and media, as well as an improved transfer market and more realistic relationships between manager and all aspects of the game. Players will even be able to have in-depth talks with their entourage and every single player on their team, and even perform actions such as asking influential players to encourage teammates and raise motivation levels.

The Challenges section also builds on these features by requiring managers to perform specific tasks, such as restoring the morale of a demoralized team. Managers are also given options in how they want to begin the game; they can either work their way up from the bottom or start the game as the manager of an already prestigious club.

Strategic skills are as important as ever as managers attempt to lead their teams to victory in games. An editor allows managers to design specific moves for each individual player to perform in matches, while the tactics screen has been redesigned with the rest of the interface to allow even greater variety in the positioning of players. During pre-game tactics meetings, motivate players with encouraging words and inspire them to leave the field a win. Since AI are now improved and more intelligent than ever, being able to compete with on the fly strategy changes is an important and rewarding aspect of gameplay.
